Pointless story time. I've been toying around with the idea of Sync and Chloe as a couple for some reason. So... I thought I'd mess with them a tiny bit.
Impulsive like the Wind
Dark green eyes watched from high above in the safety of a tree, observing a familiar knight trying to make her way through the forest with her sword. With every swing of the cool steel blade, Sync couldn’t help but smirk a little. It was nothing but a waste of time. The plants would just grow back like always. Why was she wasting her time?
At last, Sync decided to make his presence known when he saw Chloe had stopped to catch her breath. With a graceful leap Sync moved from the comfort of his tree branch to the ground beneath him, landing beside Chloe and smirking a little more. He caught a glimpse of surprise in those chocolate brown eyes of hers. Good. He liked surprising people. “Why are you even bothering? The forest is just going to grow back as soon as you turn your back on it.” Sync stated casually. Chloe just frowned, her gaze hardening into a determined look before she sheathed her sword for the moment.
“I don’t see you trying to get out of here any other way, Gale.” Chloe snarled. Sync just raised an eyebrow as she spoke, but she didn’t seem to register that fact. “Now why don’t you run along? I’m sure your mentor is looking for you.” she scoffed. Sync knew she was referring to Jade. The Colonel had agreed to help Sync relearn the fonic artes he had forgotten, but Sync felt it was just an excuse for Jade to get practice with artes he himself had forgotten. That, of course, wasn’t the main reason for the annoyed look that had come across the God-General’s face. No. It was what she had called him that had gotten his attention.
“I told you before. My name is Sync, not Gale. Why do you keep calling me that?” Sync asked, his tone no less harsh than it would have been with anyone else he was annoyed with. Chloe simply shrugged in response, shifting her weight to her right side and giving Sync a long, hard stare. For a brief moment, dark green met chocolate brown before the two shifted their gazes.
“It’s simply because you’re an impulsive brat.”
“What did you call me?!” Sync snapped.
“An impulsive brat. You’re senseless, you rush into things without thinking about the consequences, and you’re a kid who thinks he’s an adult. You said your title was the Tempest, correct?” Chloe asked. Sync just nodded slowly, not quite sure of where the black-haired knight was going with her explanation. “Well, I should think the answer is obvious then. A tempest is a fierce, wind-dominant storm. A gale is a strong wind. The wind is impulsive, doing whatever it wants whenever it wants and without any regard of what anything in nature has to say about it. Ergo, a perfect match for you.” Chloe’s explanation was blunt. A sly smirk formed on her face as her eyes narrowed slightly, while Sync’s mouth hung open in a stunned expression.
“Yeah… well, I could say the same about you. You’re the one that’s always rushing off to try and tear down the whole forest with just your sword.” Sync remarked. Chloe frowned just a little at this. “You ought to think things through more. One of these days you’re going to get yourself killed.” he continued.
“And how would you know? You’re not me, Gale. I can handle myself just fine.” Chloe stated sharply. Before Sync could even try to retaliate, Chloe pushed past him and pulled her sword from its sheath again. Without a word, she began to slash through parts of the forest in front of her, hardly registering the little chuckle Sync gave off as he started to walk away.
“You’re just as impulsive as I am. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say we were both wind from the same storm.” he remarked quietly.

Another Sync/Chloe oneshot. I was inspired. Hidden Comfort in the Rain Rain. Chloe hated when it rained. It reminded her of the night she had lost her parents. Somehow, though, she didn’t feel all that opposed to the rain this time. It was cool, which seemed to help on this particularly warm day. She was about to stop under a tree to rest when suddenly the sound of someone screaming caught her attention. At first she thought it was someone in trouble, and so she immediately moved to grab her sword from its sheath, but she stopped and thought about the scream. It didn’t sound like someone in trouble. It sounded… angry. It also sounded familiar. Chloe’s eyes widened a little when she realized just why it sounded familiar. It was Sync. Chloe didn’t waste any time and was off like a shot in the direction she had heard Sync’s cry. All sorts of thoughts raced through her mind, wondering just what had irritated Sync to that point. At last, though, she reached her destination. The God-General had his back to her and looked as though he was supporting himself against the tree he was in front of. “…Gale?” Chloe asked tentatively, taking a couple of steps forward to try and get Sync’s attention. She succeeded, but not quite in the way she had expected. Sync whirled around to face her, his face contorted in an angry glare Chloe had never expected to see from him and, to her greater surprise, there were tears rolling down his cheeks. “Gale… are you all right?” Chloe asked. “No! No, I’m not all right!” Sync snapped in response, his tone dripping with venom and rage. He didn’t continue for a long while, doing a bit of deep breathing and clenching his fists in frustration as Chloe just stared at him with a dumbfounded look on her face. “…Chloe, what would you say if I told you I don’t deserve to live?” Sync asked at last, shifting his dark green gaze to the ground almost as if he was ashamed and yet keeping his angry air about him. Chloe just stared in confusion. What did Sync mean by that? Surely he deserved to live. “I’d say you’re crazy, Gale. Everyone deserves to live, even if they are an impulsive brat like you.” Chloe replied. Sync gave Chloe a little chuckle in response, one that seemed to be bordering on insanity. “You’re wrong. More wrong than you could ever hope to be.” Sync stated. “Gale, you’re not making sense. What are you so mad about? I heard you scream from practically half way across the forest.” “It’s because I’m useless garbage!” the response was much sharper than Chloe had expected. She didn’t think Sync had thought of himself in such a manner. What had brought about the feeling of uselessness in the God-General? Sync seemed to have heard her unasked question, as he let out a little sigh and finally let his gaze meet hers as he wiped away the tears on his cheeks. “…All my life I’ve been living in someone else’s shadow. I was never good enough to be on equal footing with him, and I was thrown away because I was weaker than him. I was thinking about it while practicing my artes again, and I just couldn’t get one of them down. I was thinking… what’s the point in even trying anymore if I can’t even get this one arte down?” Sync finally asked. Chloe offered a sympathetic gaze in response as she moved closer to the God-General. He was clearly frustrated, and if it had brought out the feeling of uselessness in him then she thought perhaps it was time to offer comfort. At last, the young knight placed a hand on Sync’s shoulder. Sync flinched slightly from her touch, almost as if he wasn’t used to such a kind touch, but at last he let his gaze meet hers again. “You’re not useless, Sync. I don’t want to hear you call yourself that again.” Chloe said. Sync opened his mouth to retaliate, but she gently stopped him by placing her finger against his mouth. “I don’t know who’s shadow you’ve been caught in all your life, but you’re not him. You’re you. So what if you can’t get an arte down yet? You’re relearning. Give yourself some time.” Chloe continued. The gaze Sync gave her in response surprised her. He was looking at her with the lost eyes of a child that felt they had lost everything. The look was so… honest. Chloe had never expected Sync to be so open with his feelings before, but she smiled just a little as it registered that perhaps the young God-General wasn’t as tough as he made himself out to be. “You’ll be all right.” she murmured, moving her hands away from his shoulder and face and embracing him in a warm hug. Sync felt his cheeks burn as Chloe embraced him. What… what was this feeling he was experiencing? It felt similar to embarrassment, but not quite at the same time. For a moment the God-General tried to squirm out of Chloe’s grip, but after a few moments he gave up that attempt. Having someone comfort him felt… nice. For the first time in a long time he felt that someone actually cared about him. Jade hardly ever showed his emotions, so Sync never got that vibe from the Colonel, and Darcy… well, the man was too hard to read like Jade. Chloe was different. She was more open, even though she tried to act like she wasn’t. At last, Sync moved his own arms around and returned the embrace Chloe had started. “…Thank you. For being here.” Sync murmured. “Any time, my impulsive Gale wind.” Chloe chuckled. It took a few moments, but Chloe realized that the rain had once again brought about a good feeling. She hadn’t felt such a feeling since Senel had comforted her after what had happened between her and Alcott in the Forest of No Return. “…I’m glad it’s raining.” she murmured.

Yet another Sync/Chloe fluffy oneshot. I promise I'll write something else sooner or later. I was inspired by PatF music. Can you guess which song? CX
Teach Me How to Dance
“Come on, y’all! It ain’t much farther!” Ray called over his shoulder as he flitted ahead of the little group. The group consisted of Guy, Natalia, Sync, Chloe, and Jade. The reason the little firefly had brought the group together at such a late hour was beyond their knowledge, but they respected their friend enough to go along with whatever idea he had. Well, everyone but Sync. The God-General certainly had no idea where they were going and was just plain annoyed that he had been dragged along on the little trek through the forest.
“Why did we agree to do this again?” Sync asked.
“Because we’re Ray’s friends, Gale. Whatever he wants to show us must be pretty important, and I think we ought to respect his wishes.” Chloe replied. Sync just snorted a little, earning a chuckle from Jade, eye rolling from Guy, and an exasperated sigh from Natalia. The God-General never ceased to be a downer. He was about to speak more, but the group appeared to have reached their destination. The sunlit meadow, or rather the moonlit meadow, was before them in all its starry splendor. “Wow… I don’t think I’ve ever seen the meadow like this before.” Chloe could hardly contain her awe at the sight of the starry sky that was usually hidden behind the canopy of the trees.
“Dat ain’t what ah wanna show y’all. Just follow ol’ Ray. Y’all will see what ah found soon enough.” Ray told her. He flitted ahead once more, and without much protest the group followed. At last, Ray stopped and flitted upward. The little firefly was hardly able to suppress a giddy little laugh as he moved higher into the air.
“What is it, Ray?” Natalia asked, curiosity getting the better of her in that moment.
“Ah’ve been lookin’ all over dis forest fer her, an’ ah finally found de perfect place ta meet with her. Y’all, ah wanna introduce ya to ma belle, Evangeline.” Ray replied, motioning toward the sky as he did. All eyes fell on the brightest star in the sky in that moment. Natalia and Chloe appeared dazzled by the sight. Jade observed the sky with quiet awe while Guy, too, appeared stunned by the sight. Sync, as per usual, didn’t appear all that impressed.
“We came all this way to see a star?” Sync asked bluntly. Ray just shook his head in response.
“She ain’t no star, ya chucklehead! Evangeline is de most prettiest firefly dat ever did glow, dat’s right.” Ray replied. “An’ tonight de whole sky is just as pretty as she is. Well, almost. Ah thought y’all would enjoy seein’ it.” Ray explained. No one else appeared to want to question the firefly, and with that he flitted just a bit higher and began to sing a soft little tune that seemed to be meant for the beautiful star. This seemed to be some sort of prompt, as Natalia took that moment to meet Guy’s gaze and, after a tiny bit of urging, began to dance with the young nobleman. Jade hung back, watching the two nobles dance as Chloe glanced in Sync’s direction.
“Do… do you want to join them, Gale?” Chloe asked, gesturing to Natalia and Guy as she did. Sync just rolled his eyes and turned away from Chloe. He didn’t dance. He never had, and never intended to do so.
“I don’t dance.” Sync replied bluntly. Chloe, of course, didn’t seem to want to take no for an answer. The young knight gently gripped Sync’s gloved hand and led the reluctant God-General forward. “What are you-“
“Just try it, Gale. I promise you’ll like it.” Chloe told him. And with that, the God-General was won over. His movements were awkward, but somehow Chloe had convinced him to at least try it. Soon enough, his movements became less awkward. It wasn’t long before he and Chloe had been lost in their dance. Soon enough, though, the pair tired and brought their dance to an end. Sync’s gaze locked with Chloe’s, and he was hardly aware that his cheeks were once again burning. “See? That wasn’t so bad, now was it?” Chloe asked.
“…I guess not.” Sync replied quietly. He wasn’t even aware of Guy, Natalia, Jade, and Ray’s presence anymore. He’d… had fun with it. How did Chloe always manage to make that possible? He wouldn’t question it for the moment. Chloe appeared happy, and that was more than enough reason for Sync to think that dancing wasn’t all that bad after all.
Unknown to the pair, Ray had been observing them while he had been serenading Evangeline. A soft chuckle escaped the firefly as he shook his head. “Ah shoulda known it would work, Evangeline. If it worked fer Cher an’ Capp’n, then there shouldn’ta been a doubt it woulda worked on those two.” Ray stated.
