"Oh... really?" GB asked, feeling completely stupid. Still, Jade did seem completely terrifying to him, and probably for good reason. Probably.
"Oh, I see... I guess that's as good a reason as any," Natalia replied to the red-eyed colonel with a shrug. "You do deserve a chance to rest, after all. I can imagine that mentoring Sync all day has been stressful." He seemed to be holding up well, though, so she had no complaints. She had been somewhat worried about the colonel after their intense battle a few days ago, after all.
GB stared at Jade agape after feeling completely stupid. He sat back down, his jaw having dropped in awe. The damage was done. The colonel had walked in on this perfectly good opportunity to become a shipper's apprentice. The moment, ruined. The setter saw his new firefly friend with a look of disbelief on his face. The opportunity to learn, crushed as if it were a spider. The situation was out of his paws. GB's only solution was to whimper in the face of defeat.

"By the way, what is Guy doing here? I thought you said he was stuck in Grand Chokmah looking after his majesty's rappigs." Jade said teasingly. He couldn't resist the chance to torment his young companions just a little. Besides, now that he was there he had nothing better to do than sit in with Guy and Natalia. So, that is what he did. He sat down in the grass not all that far from the pair, still maintaining his teasing grin.
"Jeez, how many people did you tell about my having to rappig sit?" Guy asked sheepishly. He couldn't believe he had even been stuck doing it at all. Then again, he was there now so there was no point in reflecting on the past. "Well, I finally got permission from Peony to come after you two when it became apparent that you had vanished." Guy explained. He had heard what Jade had said about Sync, and was just a bit intrigued. "So you really are mentoring Sync?"
"Begrudgingly. I honestly don't know how any of the other God-Generals put up with him. He's so stubborn sometimes. But, at least we got something accomplished. He's at least remastered Turbulence and is improving his other artes." Jade replied with a soft sigh. "Of course, it hasn't been easy. He and Asch seem to share a similar stubborn trait." Jade stated.
Seeing and hearing the disappointment of GB, Ray gently pet the dog on the head. "Don't y'all worry. We's gonna get them together real good once we has another chance." Ray told him.

"I only told Jade... though Sync was there, too, so I guess I told him, too?" Natalia replied. It really was a ridiculous fate that he had nearly been doomed to. Thank goodness Peony had allowed him to investigate the forest as well! "It could have been worse, though. Everybody in the forest could have known!" she laughed. It really was fortunate that she had reunited with Jade when she did that day. She spared Guy the embarrassment of having the entire forest know of his unfortunate fate.
GB's floppy ears perked up. Yes, there was still hope. One moment ruined did not mean that the others would. The shipper and shipper-in-training-as-of-now just had to wait and hope. Wait...
...and hope.

"Don't remind me. That would have been awful if everybody in the forest knew about it." Guy remarked. How fortunate, indeed, that he had been spared further humiliation in that manner. "And at least Peony himself didn't come looking for you. That probably would have been worse." he added after a moment.
Jade just chuckled at that thought. The Emperor of Malkuth gallivanting about the dark, firefly-filled forest? That would truly be a sight to behold. "Well, I don't think it would be too unlikely. Peony was quite the adventurer back when he was younger and spent his days with us in Keterburg." Jade pointed out.

Natalia giggled at the sheer mental image. To think of Emperor Peony prancing around the forest like no one's business was rather silly. Of course, he probably wouldn't do that, but it was fun to imagine. This was no place for an emperor like him, even if he was adventurous just like she was. From what she had seen of it, it was simply much too dangerous.
GB simply lay down and rested his head on his front paws again. He had to be patient in waiting for a new opportunity to crop up; it was almost like hunting for birds. The setter made himself hungry just thinking of the analogy and sighed. Being patient - it was so hard. It was so hard, and nobody understood.

"Well, as much as I would like to stay I'm afraid I should probably be going. Best to keep an eye on Sync so he doesn't try to do anything reckless without me. I shall be seeing you later, I trust?" Jade asked as he got up again. He didn't feel like teasing the group much longer, plus he thought he ought to leave the two lovebirds alone.
"We'll catch up to you later, Jade. You go on ahead." Guy replied. Jade just shrugged in a sort of 'suit yourself' manner and without another word he walked back into the darkness of the forest. With Guy and Natalia basically alone again, Guy felt safe to scoot closer to her again. "Well, at least we can be alone again now." Guy laughed.
"Okay, now's our chance. All we gotta do is make de scenery more romantic. Like dis." Ray instructed. Without another word, the firefly flitted upward and seemed to vanish in the leaves of the tree closes to Natalia and Guy. Ray allowed his light to shine brightly through the holes in the leaves, dappling Guy and Natalia with beautiful golden light and motioning for GB to find something to make the scene more romantic.

And as quickly as Jade had arrived, he left. A little unfortunate, Natalia thought, But I guess it's necessary for him to leave. He did leave Sync by himself, after all. Someone has to keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't do something reckless. We can always meet up again later, at our place.
"I guess we really can be alone again," Natalia said, inching closer to Guy now that Jade had left to keep an eye on his reckless God-General 'pupil.'
Little did the lovely couple know that they were still not alone. While GB knew that that wasn't exactly what they meant, he knew that he had the opportunity to make this moment more romantic. Like any good shipper trainee, he rushed into the grassy landscape in search for something. Yes, anything. The setter dashed through vivid fields, his wavy fur blowing in the wind. There had to be something he could find for the lovely couple.
Ah, yes, that's the ticket! GB stopped and turned his gaze to a patch of wildflowers. Figuring that this was what Ray meant, he uprooted them and carried them all the way back to where he had been with Ray, Guy, and Natalia. He showed the flowers to Ray, as if asking if they would make the scene more romantic. They were certainly pretty enough.

Ray offered the setter a thumbs up through the leaves, indicating his 'pupil' had done good. Now... what else had he done to make the mood more romantic when it had been Tiana and Naveen. Ah! Music! Too bad Louis wasn't around to help...
Oh well. Gotta improvise, I guess. Ray thought. Unfortunately for Ray, it wasn't night time. He couldn't sing his song. He could, however, hum it. It was still pretty even without the beautiful words he had picked especially for Evangeline. With that, the little firefly began to hum his song, hoping GB would catch on and join him.
Guy appeared completely unaware of the shenanigans going on around him and Natalia. He'd lost himself in Natalia's beautiful green eyes. He reflected on how much of an idiot Mohs was for a moment. The Grand Maestro was wrong. Even if she wasn't of royal blood, she was still something special to Guy. Now if only he had the courage to put his thoughts into words. Oh well. He would have to make due with just being there with Natalia. "Has anyone ever told you that... that your eyes are really very pretty?" Guy asked. He immediately felt like a dork for saying something like that, but at least he had said something.

GB wagged his tail. Clearly he had satisfied the little firefly-mentor. He began to hum along with his new friend, the bundle of flowers still firmly grasped in his mouth, though he didn't know exactly what he was humming to. He didn't care, though; he was being useful. That alone made him happy.
Natalia blushed. It was so sudden for Guy to compliment her like that. "I don't think so, no," she responded. "Why do you ask?" She was completely unaware of what Guy had wanted to say to her, but she didn't mind. It was enough for them simply to be together.
GB finally knew what he had to do with the flowers. He padded over to the couple and gently headbutted Guy as if to alert him to something that he should know, and then sat down holding the makeshift bouquet. The setter looked back to his tiny companion to make sure that he was doing the right thing.

The little headbutt had done it's job, getting Guy's attention with ease. He spotted the flowers grasped in GB's mouth and, after petting the dog on the head again, he gently took the flowers and returned his attention to Natalia. "It's... it's just..." aw, damn it. He was fumbling over his words again. Why did it have to be so hard to say three simple words? His cheeks went red again and he briefly looked away from Natalia, trying to figure out what exactly he should say.
"Aww, no... de chucklehead is messin' up!" Ray gasped. He had to do something, otherwise their mission would fail! But what? What could he do? Ray was about to flit back down to offer Guy a bit of advice, but it appeared Guy had found his words again.
"You know how I said you would always be welcome to come with me to Malkuth? You know, back when Mohs was being an idiot and saying you weren't the princess?" Guy finally asked. He didn't wait for a response, instead opting to take one of the flowers GB had given him and gently tuck it behind Natalia's ear. "Well, I meant what I said. I... I'd be more than happy to... what I'm trying to say is..." and he was back to fumbling. Inwardly he was kicking himself for not being able to say what he was thinking. At last, though, he offered the flowers to Natalia. "You're... you've always been special to me, Natalia." he finally said. It was the best he could do. Just like that, Guy's blush increased. Oh, why were the words so hard to get out?

GB's ears folded back, at least as far back as floppy ears could go, and his eyes widened. How could Guy be fumbling this much? The setter was in sheer disbelief. There was no helping a fumbling Guy, it seemed.
Yes, Natalia remembered what Mohs had said way back then all too well. She smiled, though, as Guy reminded her how he was there to comfort her. Even though he had kept fumbling and the words kept eluding him, she thought she understood what he meant. "Well," she responded, "you've always been special to me, too, Guy. I don't know if I would have been able to go on without you. You... you mean a lot to me."
GB still stood agape. How hard was it for these two to say three simple words? Three. Simple. Words. Nonetheless, the situation was out of his paws. He looked up to Ray to see if there really was nothing else he could do as his pupil.

"How hard is it ta say three little words? We can both tell what they're thinking." Ray murmured to GB as he joined the setter. Humans. Why couldn't they be as open with their feelings as he was with his feelings for Evangeline? Ray just sighed. They were hopeless. "Nothin' we can do but wait an' see what they do." Ray said.
Guy was a little stunned by Natalia's words. He had always thought she had cared more about Luke - Asch, rather - than him. Still, he couldn't stop the smile that formed on his face. It appeared they felt the same way for one another, but just couldn't get the words out. He was glad he was there with her. Guy didn't know what sorts of creatures lurked in the forest, but he knew he would protect Natalia if the need arose. Ever so slowly, he moved his hand to Natalia's and gently grasped it. "I promise, no matter what's out there I'll do anything I can to make sure you're all right. I... I don't know what I'd do if something were to happen to you." he admitted.

GB's patience was wearing thin. It was so difficult seeing the two fumble around so much now that Natalia had gotten in on the auto-fumbling shenanigans, and yet he tried his hardest not to simply yell "Will you just spit it out already?! Just say you love each other!" at them. And yet the shouts - they beckoned! He lay down and set his head between his paws in a disgruntled manner. Anything to keep his patience from running out.
He saw how evident it was that they loved each other - the way Natalia's green gaze met Guy's face, the way Guy couldn't find the right words to say, the way they merely interacted - it was beginning to drive him crazy. There had to be something he could do to get them together. "Wait and see what they do, huh?" he asked, turning his head up to the knowledgeable firefly. "I dunno if I have enough patience for that." The urge to shout it out to them was so tempting, and yet he felt conflicted; if he did that, he'd completely and utterly ruin the moment.
The setter suddenly felt useless again.

Ray had to admit that his patience was wearing thin as well. He desperately wanted to tell Guy and Natalia to just spit it out! They were so obviously hinting at the fact that they had feelings for each other, but the auto-fumbling was beginning to get on his nerves. Still, Ray just observed quietly, watching as Guy's gaze met Natalia's again and as the ever so obvious blush returned to the nobleman's cheeks. Ray had seen a similar gaze on his own face when he had first met Evangeline, but he didn't think he had ever been this goofy about admitting his feelings to her. Oh, if only Guy and Natalia were fireflies. Maybe then they would have an easier time!
"Believe me. Ah'm havin' a hard time tellin' 'em ta hurry it up an' say it." Ray chuckled. Oh, he wished he could just tell them to hurry it up.

"It's so hard to just lie here and watch," GB sighed. His patience wore thinner and thinner by the moment. The moment continued to drive him insane. He had been patient with the lovely couple long enough. He couldn't do it.
He could not resist the urge. "Aaaaaargh!" he screamed. "How difficult is it for you to say you're in love with each other?" He promptly banged his head on the ground several times. STUPID. STUPID. DUMB. How stupid do you have to be to just yell it out like that? How unsubtle can you be? Thoughts like these ran through the setter's head as he hit his head enough to make himself dizzy. As a hunting dog, he should have been more patient than this. He felt more stupid than he had already felt this entire day. Provoking the rats wasn't nearly as stupid in comparison to blurting it out like that.
"Oh my!" Natalia was completely stunned by GB's agonized complaint. The ever-so-obvious blush on her cheeks grew even redder. She didn't know what to say. She was completely and utterly dumbfounded.
Smooth move, GB. Thank goodness you weren't there for Weed's blossoming romance with that Koyuki dog, or you'd have completely blown it there, too! Oh, why could I have not been elsewhere at this very moment? Why could I not have been running on my merry way? The setter continually banged his head on the ground.
